Medical tourism in Lebanon is expected to generate $ 1.2 billion by 2012

BEIRUT - Hailed as a leading tourist destination this summer, Lebanon is now seeking to become the leader in medical tourism. Royal Hotel Beirut is following the trend and launches its own program. Making Lebanon the Hospital of the East, is the ambition of the Tourism Council. With its 11 505 highly skilled physicians and 177 hospitals, the country has everything to succeed. One important thing is required: attract customers. To this objective, hotels like the Royal Hotel Beirut, make partnerships with clinics, travel agencies and airlines to offer key packages for medical tourism.
According to a report published by the Agency for Investment Development in Lebanon (IDAL), the growth of medical tourism is expected to be around 30% on average between 2009 and 2011. The sector should generate 1.2 billion dollars by 2012.
