Mohamad, 27 years: "Women are increasingly reconciling family and work"
By Agnès Matha
January 12, 2008

They all have the same dream. For Mohamad, 27 years, "The future of Palestinian youth is not in Lebanon, I dream of marrying a "visa" so I can leave". He was born in the Mar Elias camp and has the joyful eyes of those who embrace life. He knows that women have gained an undeniable legitimacy amongst men during the dark years of the "war of camps" in the 80’s when they were the only ones who could go out of the camps, and therefore were the ones bringing in supplies for their families. He speaks of women with admiration and respect; he considers that to the image of his mother "They keep the family together, passing on to the children the memory and the right values that help them forge their own personalities, while the role of fathers is rather to bring in money”. Mohamad believes in the future of women as partakers in the society, he concludes: "More and more women are pursuing their education, they are increasingly getting involved in politics and defending their right to reconcile family and work ".
