Families of Lebanese detainees in Syria insist on the responsibility of Lebanon
iloubnan.info - September 17, 2008, 18h44

BEIRUT - A committee formed by the families of Lebanese detainees in Syrian prisons and kidnapped and missing persons released a statement signed with the Support of Lebanese in Detention and Exile (SOLIDE).

“The differences, quarrels and internal political propaganda … have led to the insinuation that the victims of forced disappearance are only the responsibility of Israel and Syria, completely ignoring the responsibility of [Lebanon] in this crime,” they wrote in the statement.

The families asked the Lebanese government to repatriate Lebanese citizens listed in a document Syria had presented to the Lebanese government.

According to them, Lebanon should also continue to demand Syrian authorities reveal the fate of the Lebanese in its prisons.

They called for the formation of a national committee that would join government representatives, family associations and specialized international organizations such as the United Nations and the International Red Cross.
