An American study reveals that girls are reaching puberty at an increasingly early age. This new study has been published in the American magazine, Pediatrics, and says that more and more often, girls are reaching puberty at ages as early as 7 or 8 years old.
Led by Dr Frank Biro, director of adolescent medicine at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center, the study is based on 1,329 girls between the ages of 6 and 9 years old who live in the in the Bay area of San Francisco, greater Cincinnati, and in East Harlem in New York.
The study measures the onset of puberty with the start of breast development -considered to be the most ostensible sign of puberty in girls.
