Lebanon under Waste
By Élodie Morel Lebbos, January 12, 2008

The waste problem in Lebanon is not a recent issue…and of course, it won’t be solved overnight. In any case, this problem cannot be ignored because of its daily severity: wastes in the sea, river-dumps, and forests full of garbage, not to mention the river that crosses Beirut in which the muddy polluted water reminds us of the constant absence of a waste treatment global policy. NGOs and other associations deplored those mistakes. In fact, they are urging the Lebanese people, by the means of awareness campaigns, to hold themselves responsible and stop throwing their wastes everywhere.

This special report focuses on the solid wastes situation, be it daily wastes thrown by homes, or more dramatically, those generated by the July 2006 war. It also tackles the issue of special wastes and indicates the different procedures to get rid of them.
