We often hear the creators say that their passion for couture goes back to their childhood. However, until her baccalaureate, Lara Khoury was still hesitating between studying design and majoring in photography. She finally chose to enter the ESMOD School of Design in Paris. Three years later, at the age of 21, she joined Elie Saab. She spent one year in the workgroup of the most famous Lebanese designer. But what Lara wants, just like many other young people, is to work her own style. “That is why I don’t intend to stay with one designer”, explains this young modern woman. Therefore, she did her best to launch her own house and make a good start by displaying her first collection, which was prepared during a five-month period in 2008. She spent five months working in the atelier of her aunt’s boutique Pedetou in Batroun.

She’s the one who made each of the dresses displayed during her fashion show. And when we asked her about the possibility to display her collections in Paris or Milan within the official calendar of the various Fashion Weeks, she smiled and said that this could be done later on because it needs a huge budget…As for her first collection and fashion show, they were financed by her father.

At first, the latter was skeptical and unable to understand the extent of his daughter’s project. Today, he is “so proud of the result”, admitted Lara, whose project cost around 20.000 dollars. “Now, I’m trying to open my own atelier and my own boutique to organize a fashion show every year”, she said. Her house already has a name, ilk, which stands for, Inspired by Lara Khoury.
