iloubnan.info - July 21, 2008 - updated

Bogota: Pop star Shakira is leading this Sunday a nationwide demonstration in Colombia fighting for the liberation of hundreds of hostages kidnapped by the local rebels in the jungle.

Shakira has recently met Ingrid Betancourt who was held hostage previously to support the cause with the former Colombian presidential candidate. However this Sunday around 80 different solidarity rallies will take place throughout the Latin American and the world and one in Paris to include the lately freed Franco-Colombian hostage Ingrid Betancourt. The marches will occur on the same day as the Colombian's Independence Day celebrations which will be attended by the President Alvaro Uribe and his guests.

The Colombian Star Carlos Vives will be accompanying Shakira in her Independence Concert in order to pressure the FARC (Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia) to release the estimated 700 prisoners. Shakira will start the concert by singing the Colombia's national anthem before performing her concert in Bogota where more than 50,000 people are expected to fill the city square.
