On June 11, students and professionals in the advertising industry met for a night to try to improve the coherence between the creativity of young talents and market expectations. This is the first time that this event, held for the seventh consecutive year, takes place in Beirut; which means the opportunity therefore to test the Lebanese youth’s potential and the future of this sector.
We should rather talk about nights of Portfolios since it’s an international event held annually at the same time in some thirty cities. During the same night, from Sao Paulo to Singapore passing by Amsterdam and Montreal, young students meet with several professional advertisers for interviews of few minutes and present their work, their "portfolio” in order to receive opinions and especially advice of how to improve their work. This event whose approach can be compared to that of "speed dating" is organized since 2002 by "I have an idea" an association of intellectuals and Canadian advertisers wishing to promote the "self-analysis and intellectual growth" in the advertising industry. In 2009, the Middle East has entered the event with three nights held in Beirut, Dubai and Tunis organized by MEMAC Ogilvy, an advertising agency that exists in 11 countries in the region. According to Rami Traboulsi, one of the art directors of this agency, these three cities were chosen because they are the region’s most important location of house production, knowing that Beirut was the center of artistic creativity and training of future regional talents.
